BPMI  - BPMI.org (the Business Process Management Initiative) is a non-profit corporation that empowers companies of all sizes, across all industries, to develop and operate business processes that span multiple applications and business partners, behind the firewall and over the Internet. The Initiative's mission is to promote and develop the use of Business Process Management (BPM) through the establishment of standards for process design, deployment, execution, maintenance, and optimization. BPMI.org develops open specifications, assists IT vendors for marketing their implementations, and supports businesses for using Business Process Management technologies.

Implementation Costs

"There isn't a huge difference in implementation costs between business-process management products from workflow vendors and integration server vendors."

> "Typically, expect to pay $250,000 to $600,000 in software licensing costs depending on the number of users

> Expect maintenance costs to be 18% to 25% of licensing costs.

> For services, you'll shell out anywhere from 1.5 to 4 times the software price."

Our note: Education was not discussed in the article, and typically remains the "monkey on the proverbial clients back", constant use of consulting resources is a drain on any IT budget, and typically has corporate mission impacts when goals are not attained by using such software. Make sure you train your staff how to use these products, otherwise you are missing the true benefits of the "follow through" of your intellectual capital and your investment.
